Introduction

McMaster Nuclear Reactor is the most powerful university-based research reactor in Canada, capable of operating at a power of 5 MW. With available infrastructure including hot cells, sealed sources, gamma counting equipment, state-of-the-art neutron radiography instrumentation and a new neutron diffractometer, MNR is at the “core” of a unique centre for nuclear applications and research. The reactor core serves as a source of thermal neutrons that are used on a routine basis for a number of different applications, some of which are outlined below. To learn more about specific research projects involving these any of these techniques, refer to the Research & Education tab; for information about what services are available for academic and industrial clients, consult the Services page.
